S’mores Brulée

In my latest episode of the Starving Artist I break out my kitchen torch – I got it as a Christmas present a few years ago from my Aunt Judy. I highly recommend getting one – you’d be amazed all the things you can find to torch. But I think when most people think of a kitchen torch they think of creme brûlée. You know, creamy cold custard served in a ramekin, topped with sugar, and torched for a crunchy caramelized top. Delicious? Yes. But I’m the starving artist. I don’t have time or money to make custard – please. So the question is: what DO I have time and money for? What creative and affordable thing could possibly fit into a ramekin?

S’mores. What could be better? Watch the video to see how it’s done.

Here’s the recipe in PDF form: S’mores Brulee – Recipe PDF

One thing I discovered after we shot the video is that using marshmallow fluff instead of mini marshmallows actually makes it a lot easier to eat. And I realize that not every starving artist has a torch, so if you want to do this recipe without one, just place the ramekins on a sheet pan and stick it under your broiler for a minute or two until the top gets your desired black. Yum! ,

1000 Views!

Happy Monday, everyone! I’m excited to share that, just over a week out, my cooking show has received over 1000 views on YouTube! Hooray! Thanks to everyone for watching and sharing. Let’s see if we can hit 10,000! If you’re looking for panko chicken recipe you can find it here.

This week I’m returning to the lighter side of things. You’ve probably noticed that it’s been quite some time since I’ve posted about weight loss or even a mildly healthy dish. Well, things move in phases, my friends. My last weight loss post had me using my LoseIt app. Shortly thereafter I got very sick and have been derailed ever since. Today is the first time I’ve had even the mildest inclination to step it up and get back in the game. So, I’m going with it. Scale tells me I’m 226 – not too bad. Let’s see what I can whip up this week that will celebrate summer and make me feel good! Woot!

Exciting News

Hello friends! Happy Wednesday. I hope you’ll forgive my absence for the past few days. I’ve been working on a very exciting project. In November I filmed a cooking show in my apartment, starring me. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I mean, come on, would I not be fantastic on TV? I managed to find a director/producer team that was supported my idea, so they made it happen. Since then I’ve been working on getting a webisode edited and ready and finally, it is done. This Friday I’ll be launching my first video on YouTube. I’ll be making a killer chicken recipe. I’ll be embedding the video from youtube right into my blog so you’ll be able watch here, see my commentary, and download the recipe, as always. I’m excited to share it with everyone!

Really this is a beginning for me. The goal is to get something out there, see how people react, and hopefully (fingers crossed) someone will want to take it to the next level.

For now, I appreciate your readership and your support. Regular food posts will resume later today, with the big one posting on Friday morning. Stay tuned!
